In fact, I found that, in some ways, Barron's “general” prep book (Barron's SAT) would be more useful, in that it contains more techniques, and more thorough review. This important English lesson explains the five essay categories and two essay patterns you need to know to succeed in the Independent Essay Writing task of the TOEFL iBT. My overall impression is that 1) this is a well-written, useful SAT prep guide, and 2) it is NOT what it is advertised to be. The book would be better an investment. Cal, I've found guides from REA and Barrons to be good. You should follow your own advice and buy a copy of Chowdhury and Hossain's Grammar book… no wait, those books are full of errors. What worked best for me was to take practice tests, and then I'm taking that soon, and there are not close to enough resources that explain how to take it (plus I gotta do well to make up for the GPA…did not get your book on time). My problem was with math (I took the SAT before the writing section debuted).
